The Debonair Story

We’ve been good friends for close to a decade and have always had a deep-routed interest in men’s fashion and entrepreneurship. We originally met in Oslo, Norway back in 2010 and since then we’ve delved into various entrepreneurial start-ups and been on a ton of adventures.

Debonair jumped in our heads on one of these adventures in the middle of 2017 in Corfu, Greece. We’d decided to go on holiday together and on a late afternoon, we were enjoying a nice bit of meze at a local Greek restaurant. As we are both the kind of people who enjoy discussing ideas and concepts, it was no surprise that we ended up in a deep conversation; this time about men’s fashion.

Debonair initial thought begun as a physical store in London and styled itself as a dedicated store for men’s accessories of all types. However, when it came to what we would stock, we rather did not want to have to work with big established brands everyone knew. Our personal journey in fashion – though modest, made us understand that value and context was infinitely more important than quantity and story-less mass production. For this reason, we wanted to work with small to medium sized ambitious and inspired manufacturers to source and potentially even create ethically produced men’s accessories.

Passion behind the brands

One of our main priorities with Debonair is that we want to give our customers a product with story, history and value. A product that is unique in its construction and superior in its quality and where in some instances, the customer could even site the name of the person who made it for them. To do this, we needed to redefine the sources of where there products were coming from.

Debonair is based in London; a thriving metropolis with a world leading fashion industry sporting some of the most skilled product designers and individual artisans in the industry. We realised that there was a real opportunity here to help these small enterprises get on the international stage . With fashion these days following global defined trends, we wanted to open ourselves completely to give these people complete creative freedoms and the power to reach the masses. The idea of a physical shop seemed to have a good base behind it, however, with current British high street retail markets in crisis, it was clear that both the risk and the overhead costs required were simply too great.

For that reason, we decided to slim the whole idea down to its basics. A simple, yet elegantly designed e-commerce portal not just for London, but for the entire world. A place where customers could browse at leisure for a product that truly fitted them, while providing our manufacturers a world-wide portal to promote and sell their goods. Debonair taps into the power of hand-made, and the potential is limitless. Each leatherworker, watch developer and shredder has the potential to come up with products completely unique to the market and the customers. Debonair is built to promote brands and their stories just as much as the products. We’ve built the platform in a way that reflects this in a clear and elegant way to potential customers. This level of brand-to-ecommerce website integration is rare, and we’ve done this deliberately, so customers can buy into the story as much as the products themselves.

However, we’re also dedicated that our manufacturers are happy. Ensuring our manufacturers are always on top of their game and getting the best out of Debonair is just as essential as serving our customers. Information is key, and to ensure things run smoothly for them, we’ve developed easy to use tools and portals to get the latest on orders, statistics and revenue metrics. Debonair works with major shipping and logistic companies to ensure that customer orders move efficiently between our manufacturers and end customers. Our unique approach to shipping means that manufacturers can work in the comfort of their own workshop to develop their amazing products and only need to worry about packaging and slapping a shipping label on when the order is completed. A courier will then pick up the order and ship it directly to the end customer. No fuss, no hassle.
